Learning to Let Go of Control (Even When It's Hard)
It may not seem like it, but I'm a control freak.
This is hard to admit, but I try to control how I am perceived — whether it's with people close to me or with strangers. I try to control life, people, my thoughts, my emotions, my actions. And I get frustrated when I can't.
This upcoming Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces is calling me to let go of habits that are no longer working for me. So I thought of one thing I want to let go of.
What I’m Letting Go
I’m taking a break from social media. I have tried delegating this before, but the control freak in me wants to manage everything. As much as I love doing it as my creative expression, I am prioritizing my mental health. I realized it is taking more time and energy from me, more than I ought to give. I am not immune to the dopamine effects of social media. I know I am strong but I shouldn’t have to test myself.
I have to do the hard thing and slowly delegate, at my own pace, in my own way, because that's the only way it actually sticks for me.
With the new time and energy that I will gain back, I will pour it into other creative projects.
Why I'm Sharing This
I'm sharing this because it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. But we have to try anyway.
It will probably be very hard. There will be a learning curve. I will probably feel very uncomfortable.
But this is what growth feels like. Uncomfortable.
What Will You Let Go Of?
So — what is something you can let go of? Something small, that gives you more breathing space, and more room to grow? It'll be something hard. Something uncomfortable.
Call it a challenge. Or call it an invitation.
But remember — change is going to keep happening whether you like it or not. You can stay in the loop, going in circles. Or you can be the one who initiates the change in your life.
The choice is yours. Or the universe will do it for you.
I know life gets busy. But I believe gathering women in circles provides a different kind of healing. Wild Moon Circle is our weekly live gathering inside Healing and Rising, where we sit with exactly this kind of thing — together, out loud, instead of alone in your head. So even if everyone is busy, I will keep spots open every week. This is not for me. This is for you.
